Dave Matthews teaches Secret #1 for IT leaders
Dave Matthews’ Caravan rocked Governors Island last night. But the last person I would have wanted to be at the concert was the IT leader responsible for communications infrastructure at the event.
Why’s that you ask? Simple. Because the systems supporting the dozens of ATMs and credit card readers they brought in to sell food and merchandise were on the fritz for good portions of the concert. And let me tell you, people were pissed.
Vendors couldn’t accept debit cards or credit cards. So only people with sufficient cash could buy stuff. And if that wasn’t bad enough, all the ATMs they brought in to dispense cash were also not working. What a screw up.
This is a perfect example of why Secret #1 of the 11 Secrets of Highly Influential IT Leaders is: Infrastructure Really Matters. Because indeed it does matter, a great deal.
